WHY WE NEED STAGE TRIALS

Bridging the Gap Between Research and Practice

Applying the NIH Stage Model to accelerate the development and implementation of behavioral interventions.

THERE IS A MAJOR GAP BETWEEN RESEARCH SCIENCE AND CLINICAL PRACTICE.

Why We Need STAGE TRIALS

Current education faces a significant challenge, lacking a structured approach for programmatic, stage-informed behavioral intervention research. This gap highlights a critical need for investigators to receive support in conceptualizing entire research programs, extending beyond isolated trials, and effectively integrating mechanisms, fidelity, and scalability. Addressing this, the NIH STAGE TRIALS Training Program steps in to build necessary skills and provide crucial mentorship, ultimately fostering the development of robust, evidence-based interventions.

More specifically, the NIH STAGE TRIALS Training Program will provide investigators with the knowledge required to develop behavioral interventions with implementation in mind. Participants in this training will learn how to use the NIH Stage Model and how to craft research studies and apply for research funding for each stage outlined in the Stage Model.

The NIH STAGE TRIALS Training Program’s long-term objective is to expand the national pool of NIH Stage-informed and NIH-funded scientists committed to advancing behavioral interventions to promote healthy aging.

Through interactive seminars, discussions, and applied learning, participants will deepen their expertise in behavioral intervention development and gain practical skills to advance toward independent research careers.
